Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, so we thought it appropriate to post about the Mind Matters Initiative (MMI).

Life in the veterinary industry can be interesting and rewarding, but it can also be challenging. The MMI “aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing” of those in the veterinary industry. The organisation is run by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

As well as working to remove the stigma which still surrounds mental ill-health, the MMI also offers mental health awareness training, and tries to develop and support resources available to vets, nurses, practice managers and students.

The MMI works closely with Vetlife, who offer independent, confidential and free help and advice for all those within the veterinary community. Vetlife is a charity which runs a 24/7 phone and email support service where you can talk in confidence, and they also offer professional mental health support.

If you’re struggling and need someone to talk to in confidence, for advice or support or even just someone to listen to you, then please reach out to the MMI or to Vetlife, or even to someone close to you.
